Local Resources to Help Grow Your Business

The Capital Region is a great place to be a small business owner for many reasons. One of which is all the resources available to support and cultivate a community that encourages people to shop locally. Here are some of those resources that can help enable growth for your business:

  • The Albany Small Business Development Center is the local chapter of the statewide program. It serves Albany, Columbia, Fulton, Greene, Hamilton, Montgomery, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, Schoharie, Warren, Washington Counties by “[providing] customized solutions through advisement, education, research and advocacy for Entrepreneurs, Innovators, and the Small & Medium Enterprise community.” You can get in touch with the Center through their website or by phone at 518.442.7232.
  • The Capital Region Chamber of Commerce provides resources for local businesses like directories, professional development, training and education, and increased visibility. While you may be a member of your neighborhood’s Chamber of Commerce, consider joining the regional group and accessing their extensive benefits. More information here.
  • The Center for Economic Growth serves the eight counties that make up the Capital District. The nonprofit “serves as the primary point of contact for businesses interested in growing in or moving to [the Capital Region]. They provide support, resources, information on grants and loans, workforce partnerships, startup support, and even information on moving to the area. Learn more about the Center here.
  • Hyper-Local Resources often don’t blanket apply to all small businesses in the region but accessing city-specific organizations like the Downtown Albany Business Improvement District, Discover Schenectady, and the City of Troy’s SmallBizHelp Program can provide more focused and localized resources and aid for your growing business.
  • For more information including national resources, visit Albany Law School and the City of Albany’s lists of small business resources.
