Pioneer Bank and Junior Achievement volunteers educated K-5 students on understanding and managing finances in dozens of sessions throughout the spring semester

Albany, New York - Pioneer Bank and Junior Achievement of Northeastern New York recently celebrated the completion of a program that provided hundreds of K-5 students in the Troy City School District with the building blocks of financial literacy.

This program assisted nearly 400 students over the course of the spring semester by cultivating an understanding of the basic functions of finance in the day-to-day world. Topics covered in the classes differed depending upon the age group, but were focused on financial literacy, work-readiness and entrepreneurship.

Over the course of the partnership, Pioneer Bank volunteers visited classrooms at least five times for each grade level, providing dozens of hours of volunteer instruction. During this time, Pioneer Bank volunteers taught elementary students about the basic function of money in a community, including but not limited to needs, wants, credit and debit, business plans, investing, goods, services, production, and more.

This was the first year that Junior Achievement and Pioneer Bank partnered in this capacity.

"Giving back to our communities is a tenet of Pioneer Bank, and we are proud to provide Capital Region children with programming that builds a solid foundation on which to build their financial futures,” said Pioneer Bank President and CEO Thomas Amell.

"Junior Achievement's work helps build stronger communities by enabling a brighter future for children everywhere," said Jesse Tomczak, Pioneer Bank Executive Vice President & Chief Customer Experience Officer. "We are delighted to partner with such a respected organization to make an investment in children's lives locally."

"We are so grateful for Pioneer Bank's commitment to our youth in the Capital Region by encouraging their employees to deliver our programs. We could not provide this benefit to our young people were it not for the corporate volunteers who deliver our programs in the classroom every day. We are working together to help students become workforce ready positioning them for future success” said Tovah Lisky, President, Junior Achievement of Northeastern New York, Inc.
