“Some children do not have a bed to sleep in at night. Dozens of volunteers worked together on Friday to change that.

More than 50 employees from Pioneer spent the day in the parking lot outside company headquarters in Colonie building beds for children in need. Pioneer partnered with Sleep in Heavenly Peace, a Mechanicville-based nonprofit that makes beds for local families.

The company’s president said the event was a great way to make a difference.

“It’s kind of sad that there’s kids in our community who don’t have a bed,” said Tom Amell, President and CEO of Pioneer. “We can do something about it. We can all do something about it. We elected to do something about it.”

Pioneer employees also donated pillows, sheets and comforters, which will be delivered with the bed frames on Saturday.
